Sun Damaged Hair

beachhair

We are used to protecting our skin from the sun, but what about our hair? The sun’s rays can definitely affect our hair.

Try some of these tips and you will subtly notice the difference with your hair.

Protect:

1. Wear a wide brimmed hat

2. Leave in Conditioner

3. Leave in product with UV protection – this can build up in your hair so use clarifying shampoo once a week to remove coating.

4. protect your scalp, if you have a favorite parting, apply SPF 30 or higher on parting

During Summer, salt water, chlorine and wind can dry your hair. Try and limit beach visits, swimming pools and outdoor activity with out protecting your hair.

1. Wet your hair with plain water before swimming to prevent it from absorbing too much chlorine and rinse again right after swimming.

2. Wear a hat or put long hair up to avoid wind damage.

3. Stay away from lemon juice, alcohol, peroxide or other coloring tricks because they can definitely dry out and damage your hair.

Get your shine back! If your hair is already dry and frizzy from sun exposure, it is not too late to get it back!

1. Use hair repair shampoo weekly

2. Use a deep conditioner weekly. Cover your hair with a shower cap to let your natural heat penetrate the conditioner deeply in your hair. Conditioners with keratin, wheat germ protein, and jojoba oil are good choices. Make sure to condition ends well!

3. Apply a sunscreen laden leave in conditioner daily to protect your sundamaged hair from further UV damage

4. Limit  blow dryers, curling irons, and flat irons to prevent further damage.

5. Your hair color will definitely fade with sun exposure, a hair gloss and/or deep conditioning treatment  with your hair stylist can add shine back to your locks

A brief introduction of the benefits of avocado:

1. Avocado has been used traditionally to help people with sexual problems.

2. Great antioxidant and can be used for skin disorders

3. Avocado will aid healing for people suffering from digestive and circulatory problems

4. Another benefit of avocado for the skin where avocado paste can be applied to rashes and rough skin to make it smoother.

5. The brighter the fruit, the more beta-carotene (the substance that helps to prevent cancer) your avocado contains.

The use :

1. The flesh of a ripe avocado soothes sunburnt skin. Just cut the fruit in half and rub it gently over the affected areas.

2. Eat an avocado everyday if you’re recuperating from sickness and are trying to regain your strength.

278796-37120-4

On the Skin:  mix uncooked oatmeal and plain yougurt for an exfoliating, hydrating paste. The oatmeal acts as the exfoliant to remove dry skin and the yougurt does the moisturizing. You can mix as little oatmeal with yougurt or as much (for extra scrubbing)

For the Health: drink plenty of water!  Avoid alcohol, caffeine, packaged foods and tabacco-skin dehydrators

For the bath:  Fill the tub with warm water and add whole milk or butter milk. Soak for a bit and let the proteins in milk moisturize your skin

Smooth like a babys bottom

I am an addict to lotion. I hate having dry skin. A lotion connoisseur?

A few weeks back I came across miracle lotion. Its called Hawaiian Moon Aloe. It caught my attention when I found out it’s made with ‘all natural ingredients’, the first on the list is organic aloe (a natural healer).  Then reading what it was supposed to do besides heal dry skin, I was in awe. Acne, rashes, bee stings, bruises, sunburn, psoriaisis, eczema, razor burns….plus more! Lastly, it absorbs 7 layers deep into your skin.
I know I am easily sold, on almost anything (infomercials are my frenemy), but I had to give it a try. It is a little pricey for normal grocery brand lotion but I did it and gave in.
And I just want to share that I LOVE IT! It honestly feels like nothing at first, non greasy at all and I am used to Palmers cocobutter which is total opposite. The consistency is in between gel and lotion. It was a little weird getting used to the lotion just absorbed right in to your skin, but when I started noticing that my skin has gotten super soft, I was loving it. I am going to keep using it to test out if it does improve other symptoms it claims to heal..
Check it out on Hawaiian Moon Aloe

Natural Treatments for Dry Hair

MAYONNAISE

If your hair is starting to feel dry and lack of color/shine do an easy at home hair treatment. Use regular mayonnaise, most cholesterol hair treatments, aka mayonnaise in hair stores, have alcohol.

Ingredients in at home mayonnaise are:

whole egg protein: an important source of necessary minerals, vitamins and protein

nettle: a natural source of VitaminA and silica used to strengthen the hair and stimulate the scalp

Safflower Oil: vital source of essential fatty acids that have moisturizing effects on the skin and hair

Soybeans: vital souraces of essential fatty acids that have moisturizing effects on the skin and hair

Amino Acids: provides herbal infusion of organic sulfur and keratin, a vital key to maintaining strong healthy hair

I was super curious about this one day and tried it out. Didn’t even have to step outside and do a quick run to Ralphs for it. From my personal experience, to make it easier for you,

1. put some mayo in a separate container

2. comb your hair out, easier with no tangles

3. apply in sections, from scalp, roots, to ends and use your hands for absolute application. i like feeling the product in my hand and onto my hair so i know its fully saturated.

4. clip up and put a shower cap on

5. soak a medium sized towel and heat it for 2-3 minutes and wrap around your head for about 8-10 minutes

6. rinse thoroughly with warm water

Honestly, it wont feel like conditioner in your hair when you rinse out. Conditioners have silicone so it smoothes your hair. Cholesterol has natural ingredients to moisturize your hair.

***If your hair is extremely dry from chemical treatment, you can do this once a week. If you have a more oily scalp, just apply mayo to hair ends.

Aloe Vera…Face Lift.

Aloe Vera is soothing to the skin (especially when you have a sunburn), moisturizes the skin and can prevent hyperpigmentation.  Aloe contains polysaccharides, glyco proteins, enzymes, vitamins, and minerals. Aloe Vera can be used to temporary “tighten” your skin. So you would want to apply this right before you go out.

All you would need to do is cut a piece of the aloe vera leaf, slice it open and apply the gel directly to your face, leave it on for about 10-15min and rinse off with cool water.

Home Remedies for Acne / Breakouts

I have tried some of these remedies in the past and they actually worked.

Tea Tree Oil- This is obtained from the Melaleuca alternifoliais tree from Australia. It contains bacteria-fighting substances called Terpenes, which either kill the bacteria or weaken them .

Aloe Vera- I bought a plant and used it fresh everyday. The enzyme-rich gel has very soothing anti-flamatory and anti-bacterial properties. You can also drink aloe veera, which will clean up and detox the digestive tract.

Zinc- you can get these in capsules from any drug store, It helps strengthen the immune system and repair your skin.

Vitamin A- It is said that vitamin a will help reduce the oils in your skin, helping your skin from
breaking out.

Water- Drink A LOT of water.
