Gintel’s had these dreads for a while, I love them! 

I decided to do some peek-a-boo highlights on her dreads. Pretty fun because it is not your everyday hair in foil highlights, all nice and neat. With dreads it changed up my highlighting routine. I got to soak the dreads in lightener and wrapped them up like the way you used to make antennas when you were a kid!

Keri Hilson looked gorgeous, as always, for a Pre-Oscar party hosted by Okay Magazine held at Beso Restaurant. I (Alana Dawn) did her makeup for this event and Maisha Oliver, Keri’s hair stylist, did a great job with her hair (I love the bangs).

Crazy what highlighting and shading can do.

I was doing some research on camouflaging scars and ran into this website. What a great idea! its so simple but yet no one has really done it and if you can see the before and after pictures, it really works. I’ve read in a few articles of both men and women that have  scars or pigmentation problems on their face that have gotten this done and it looks a hundred times better.

I have so many scars from when I was a child that I am now use to but I would consider camouflaging them, it looks great but what happens when you tan? I guess its better than a big white spot right?

In order to get a smooth, glowing, sun kissed look you got to use a few different blushes. I normally use about 3 different colors, a highlight, contour and blush with color. I start with the contour, a soft brown that will give your cheeks some definition, next blush on the apples of your cheek normally a peachy color, and finally a highlight on the high point of your cheek bones. Its makes a huge difference. Try it and let me know how it turns out.

Contour: soft brown to give cheeks definition (bone beige MAC)

Apples of cheek: a peachy color  (Melba or MArgin MAC) with or without shimmer (this depends on your skin tone)

Highlight: I like to use Vanilla Pigment from MAC

Here are what I’ve noticed:

Braids-to the side, loose, fish tail, and perfect for growing out your fringe style

Tips: no time to fix your hair? Braids is your answer! 

Natural textures: embrace what your mama gave you! love those curls, sweep it up softly for a loose up do

High pony tail: it’s not just for the gym, it’s high fashion!

Tips: Add a creamy, medium to heavy hold to comb your hair up. Use a boar bristle brush to really slick your hair back, spray baby hairs when you got it all up

Middle part & loose waves: do together or separate, the bohemian chic look, very natural and airy

Tips: not too much stiff products, when starting wet, blow dry all your hair forward to give a little lift. Add some curl products. I love Bumble n Bumble Curl Conscious Creme!! it holds just enough of your curl, reduces frizz and best of all NOT stiff!

For stick straight hair, take random sections and simply wrap around iron. It’s simple because you don’t want a prom look! Add a little shine on your ends. Try Bumble and Bumble Defrizz, can be used on wet hair but best on dry hair

Lastly, Straight bangs/Full Fringe: I love bangs because even if you don’t have time to style your hair, just make sure your bangs are in place and put on a cute hat, do a side pony tail, or just leave your hair down.

Tips: make sure your bangs are fully wet, and you have a clean face, you don’t want your bangs sticking to your forehead grease! take a brush and hold your blowdry hitting the top of your bangs. Use your brush to do a criss cross action with your bangs. This neutralizes any cowlicks that causes your bangs to pop up
