A Natural Way to Exfoliate
Sun Damaged Hair

We are used to protecting our skin from the sun, but what about our hair? The sun’s rays can definitely affect our hair.
Try some of these tips and you will subtly notice the difference with your hair.
Protect:
1. Wear a wide brimmed hat
2. Leave in Conditioner
3. Leave in product with UV protection – this can build up in your hair so use clarifying shampoo once a week to remove coating.
4. protect your scalp, if you have a favorite parting, apply SPF 30 or higher on parting
During Summer, salt water, chlorine and wind can dry your hair. Try and limit beach visits, swimming pools and outdoor activity with out protecting your hair.
1. Wet your hair with plain water before swimming to prevent it from absorbing too much chlorine and rinse again right after swimming.
2. Wear a hat or put long hair up to avoid wind damage.
3. Stay away from lemon juice, alcohol, peroxide or other coloring tricks because they can definitely dry out and damage your hair.
Get your shine back! If your hair is already dry and frizzy from sun exposure, it is not too late to get it back!
1. Use hair repair shampoo weekly
2. Use a deep conditioner weekly. Cover your hair with a shower cap to let your natural heat penetrate the conditioner deeply in your hair. Conditioners with keratin, wheat germ protein, and jojoba oil are good choices. Make sure to condition ends well!
3. Apply a sunscreen laden leave in conditioner daily to protect your sundamaged hair from further UV damage
4. Limit blow dryers, curling irons, and flat irons to prevent further damage.
5. Your hair color will definitely fade with sun exposure, a hair gloss and/or deep conditioning treatment with your hair stylist can add shine back to your locks

Sun tanning tips
It is getting hot hot HOT!! For those who want the summer glow but is lacking some pigment, I suggest sun tanning lotion. A lot safer and healthier than the microwave tan.

Here are a couple tips to consider when applying sun tan lotion:
- If beginning your sun tanning routine during peak summer, begin with only 10 or 15 minutes of exposure to the sun or a tanning lamp to acclimatize your skin to the heat and gradually increase the time as your body becomes more tanned.
- Remember to choose the right sunscreen with an SPF factor of under 15, but no less than 8 so that you get the minimum necessary protection while taking care not to de-limit your bodily benefits from being sunny side up!
- Take care to ensure that your skin is moisturized with after-sun lotion; opting for a lotion that contains aloe will help make your tan last and also cool the skin since aloe is rich in skin soothing properties.
- If you are on acne medication, do consult your health care provider before venturing out for a sun tanning session as certain types can lower your resistance to sun.
- Those with a fair complexion are more prone to sunburn than people with darker complexions and therefore must avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours of 10:00 to 2:00, when its rays are the most harmful and can penetrate the light skin most.
- Remember to wear sunglasses while tanning in the sun or in a tanning bed as your eyes are precious and can be easily damaged by the scorching rays of noonday sun.
- The cream or spray-on tanning lotion is the best variety for optimal sun tanning. However, skin care experts advice that one must always test the product on a small area of skin to check for any signs of adverse reactions.
- Prepare your skin before applying sun-tanning lotion. This can be done by scrubbing away dead skin with a loofah pad before rubbing the lotion on thoroughly. Sun tanning lotion must be applied in slow, deliberate movements to the back of your knees, elbows, ankles and tan lines.
- Wipe away extra lotion so you do not become a victim of ‘creased tan’ and get the bronzed look evenly-and compliments about your sunny disposition too.
- Do remember to wash hands or gloves thoroughly with soap and water after applying sun tan lotion and wait at least 15 minutes before getting skin wet.
- Find out about the option of using tanning pills, which contain color additives, before trying them out.
- If there are certain areas you’d rather keep light, you can pre-apply baby oil or lotion to such regions like the knees and elbows, then use sunless tanner on them to keep them from getting too dark.
Lower Lash Mascara

Mascara made specifically for your lower lashes. I would recommend that everyone should own one of these. Only $16
My Favorite Brush!

My new favorite item. My cousin Carine who is a manager at MAC introduced me to this brush when it first came out and I LOVE IT! buy one here.
Dermalogica MediBac
For any of you suffering from Adult acne, instead of “Proactive” you should try Dermalogica’s MediBac kit for $40.00. I promise you will start to see your face clear in just a few days. I hate that PROACTIVE has all these actors, actresses, musicians on their site that are PAID to endorse their product when non of them ever suffered from REAL acne, they show pictures of a break out and they act like it was such a bad time in their life.
I have used this product on a few people and it has cleared their skin completely, try it, the kit should last you about a month or 2.
GinZing eye cream by Origins

I have recently discovered GinZing by Origins. I have been looking for that certain eye cream that moisturizes and brightens your eyes so I don’t always have to use concealer for days i want to look extra natural.
Pros:
Brightens instantly!
Buildable, meaning you can brighten under your eye as much as you want just reapply more cream
Cons:
too creamy
Overall, I LOVE it
Benefits of Ginseng
The benefits of long term usage of ginseng have been realized by the North American and European populations only since the late 1960s. As awareness of ginseng’s properties steadily increase, so does its popularity. Ginseng’s value is mainly as a preventative. It should be taken over a long period of time to stimulate rejuvenation and virility. Indications are the best long term benefits are achieved with a dosage of between 500 and 1500 mg (milligrams) per day. For therapeutic use, a dosage of 2000 mg per day is recommended.
Ginseng may be effective for treating colds, coughs, rheumatism, neuralgia, gout, diabetes, anemia insomnia, stress, headache, backache and double vision. Women find it helpful in normalizing menstruation and easing childbirth. In an experiment study in Eastern Europe, ginseng was used effectively as a mouth was against Periodontal Disease which is a progressive destruction of the supporting structures of the teeth. Ginseng also counteracts the effects of physical and emotional stress, enhances memory, counteracts fatigue without caffeine, and improves stamina. Medically, ginseng stimulates the immune system, by spuring the production of the body’s own virus fighting chemicals, helps reduce cholesterol levels in the blood, has anti-clotting effects, reducing risk of arterial blood clots, helps control diabetes by reducing blood sugar levels, is known as an antioxidant, preventing the cumulative cell damage researchers believe cumulates in cancer, protects the liver from the effects of drug, alcohol and toxins, minimizes cell damage from radiation, and increases intestinal absorption of nutrients. Spray de Mode- Bumble and Bumble
Spray de Mode by Bumble and Bumble

One of my favorite hair sprays I love to use on my clients! If you are looking in to trying another hair spray, give Spray de Mode a shot!
I love it because it does what it says! Bumble and Bumble describes it as: A multi-dimensional styling tool – it gives flexible hold, workability, exceptional memory and can take heat & repeated brushing – on supermodels and non-supermodels alike.
Who: Anyone.
When: Excellent while styling dry hair with heat tools or as a flexible finishing spray.
How: Hold about 10 inches away from hair and spray in fluid, even strokes; when using heat tools, separate hair into sections and mist each just prior to contact; to finish apply evenly to dry and styled hair.
I especially love multi use products, great on the go so you don’t have to carry so much. Or just looking to buy that one time shop all purpose product kind.
I use it when I am flat ironing or curling my clients. Separate the section of hair, spray (protects from heat) and style.
Also I use it on after styling. When my client looks great in the finished style, just spray all over and it is light enough to comb out and has a medium hold to control without a sticky hard feel.

Exfoliate with any face wash
I just recently discovered this new little accessory to your skin care regimen.
It’s the mini facial brush from The Body Shop.
What I love about this:
You can use it with any face wash!
Your face wash can last longer because it spreads your wash all over your face
It changes your simple face wash to an exfoliator!
It’s $3.oo!!
My discoveries:
I think this is great for once or twice a week.
I found the bristles to be a little harder than I thought, maybe because it’s brand new? But it felt a little rough on my skin
You can purchase it on their site HERE
Camouflage Your Scars With Tattoos

I was doing some research on camouflaging scars and ran into this website. What a great idea! its so simple but yet no one has really done it and if you can see the before and after pictures, it really works. I’ve read in a few articles of both men and women that have scars or pigmentation problems on their face that have gotten this done and it looks a hundred times better.
I have so many scars from when I was a child that I am now use to but I would consider camouflaging them, it looks great but what happens when you tan? I guess its better than a big white spot right?
Look Younger

Quick tip to looking younger, or avoid looking aged:
Since aged skin tends to be dry, Stick to creamy blushes and eyeshadows. Powder blushes and eyeshadows tend to settle into your fine lines and wrinkles.
Creamy blushes and eyeshadows can “plump” up your skin, give you a dewy healthier glow!
Most importantly, Be active! Smile! Have fun! and you won’t worry about how you look as you age.
Avoid Sun Damage

Did you know that most of the sun damage you see on your face when your older (40’s+) happened early on in life around your 20’s… This is why sun block is very important!!! When you tan wear at least 15 spf .
Eye care tip for puffy eyes

Quick tip:
Avoid salty foods. They can cause fluid retention and eye puffiness.
Slightly elevate your head while sleeping to prevent extra fluid from settling around eyes and making them puffy
Use cucumber slices to reduce eye puffiness.
Battle of the Chapsticks
I know it may seem a bit minor, but it is very important to have that perfect chapstick for me! I’m sure you guys never thought about it until you found your one. My previous post on chapstick was that I found Carmex Moisture Lip to be my fave, I forgot all about my other fave, Burt’s Bees. I had bought Burt’s Bees to compare, and the result was, I love them both!

CARMEX: I love the slim packaging the new Carmex comes in
The tingling/cooling feel of the menthol
SPF
Softens my lips and makes them a little poutier
Request a sample HERE
BURT’S BEES: All natural
Semi matte finish
Earth Friendly
Softens my lips and feels moisturized
Eyebrows tip

Quick tip:
Pluck your eyebrows before you go to bed. Redness or swelling will have a chance to go away over night.
Quick Hair Care Tip- Blow drying

When you blow dry your hair, keep the blow dryer at least 6 inches away from your hair and keep it moving constantly so you don’t over heat your hair and scalp.
We want to avoid heat damage and dry scalp.
Always use heat protectant before blow drying.
One of my favorite products to use when blowdrying is Moroccan Oil. It’s great for medium to coarse hair. For fine hair use just a drop. Not so much for really blonde/platinum because it may tint hair strands.
Chapstick fave
I may have ended my mission on finding the best chapstick! I’ve always liked the results of carmex. That tingly feel and really makes your lips feel soft. I’ve had my on and off battles with “Chapstick” , my lips was soft but still felt dry? I do not like “Soft Lips”, that lasted like a minute of softness.
My visit to RiteAid showed me Carmex in a Soft Lips form, easy application, lipstick like and I love it!!
If you’ve been having a hard time trying chapstick after chapstick, try Carmex in a lipstick form. You can find i’m sure at any grocery store, spf 15 also.

Bijoux Bling
I ran across this beautiful ring here, but not only do I like the ring, I love the concept of the photo. Normally you see beautiful models wearing jewelry for their ads but they made this photo stand out by using black matte nail polish, and black paint around the fingers and palms. I LOVE IT!
“Less is More” Beauty tip

To brighten and emphasize the lips and cheeks, I use Benefit’s Benetint. The rose stain not only lasts all day, but it moisturizes my otherwise chapped lips. That’s pretty much the only makeup I use along with a top-notch mascara. Simple and effective…and as the saying goes: “Less is More!”
Thank you Sylvia Adams for your beauty tip! xoxo

Nail polish tips

Store your nail polish in the refrigerator to maintain its smooth consistency.
Although all nail colors are fun to use, try complementary colors for your skin for the days you don’t know what to use.
What nail color compliments your skin tone?
Pale/Ivory Skin: pinks and berries
Bronze/Olive Skin: orange and red shades, peach, brown with yellow undertone
Medium Skin: very versatile in color choices, but burgundy are most complementary
Dark Skin: Deep corals, purples and strong reds
Nail care tip
Avoid using perfume lotions that contain alcohol if your nails are weak and brittle. You are more likely to break or chip them.
