So I posted a photo on my personal instagram last week and I got a bunch of texts from my friends asking me: “How in the world did you cover that tattoo with makeup!?” Color Theory my friend, Color Theory.
When we correct our under eye darkness, in most cases we use a salmon color to cancel out the bluish tones right? Right. We use opposite colors (or complimentary colors) from the color spectrum to cancel them out.
Bust out your color wheel or use the one below for reference. Follow these steps
1) Figure out what colors are in the tattoo.
(The picture above the bow was actually pink, (which is a hue of red) I used Green (Green is opposite of red) to cancel out the pink, but I only placed it in the areas where there was pink)
2)Find out what each color’s opposite is.
3)Take cream based makeup and use complimentary colors to go over tattoo. If you have multiple colors in the tattoo this will require some patience. You are basically going over whole tattoo color by color, this takes time.
Tip: Most “black” tattoos are actually a hue of green. Use red to cancel it out
4. Take a concealer and gently and ever so carefully pat the product over the tattoo
5. Set with powder
You may have to do a few layers switching between concealer and powder but be patient, trust me it will work!
Don’t forget to show us your work!
