Side Braid for Short Hair

January 31, 2012

Loving the side braid but you have short hair?

1.) Gather your hair to the side getting started for that side braid

2.)Wrap a ribbon, longer than your hair, and incorporate that into your braid

The Hunger Games: Hair Secrets

January 31, 2012

I just wanted to share with you one of  my favorite books, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.  The movie comes out in March 23, 2012 by director Gary Ross. I’m soo excited! The book was so colorful and I can picture that  Hair and makeup is going to be FUN!

INSTYLE shares “Hair Secrets Straight From The Set!”

The Hunger Games movie is going to be a HAIR spectacular! “This was one of the most complex, detailed movies I’ve ever worked on,” hair department head Linda Flowers told “People are going to be blown away by how beautiful and breathtaking it is.” We’ll take her word for it—especially in light of the following stats:

3,000: People who were processed through the hair and makeup tents each week. “Extras couldn’t just have their normal hair. Everyone had to be in the style of the time,” said Flowers.

500: Cast members and extras who had their eyebrows bleached, including Elizabeth Banks, who plays Effie Trinket.

400: Cast members and extras wearing wigs in a single day of filming. “We went with odd permutations of colors like dusty rose and chartreuse,” Flowers said. “The challenge was to make them look couture and sophisticated.”

45: Hairdressers working in a single day.

20: Minutes spent creating Katniss Everdeen’s signature braid for Jennifer Lawrence.

3: Colored wigs worn by Elizabeth Banks: One pink, one green, and one lavender.

1: Wig worn by Stanley Tucci, who plays Caesar Flickerman. “It’s a dark navy blue wig in a Karl Lagerfeld-style ponytail,” she says.

How to Apply The Perfect Red Lip

January 31, 2012

Its no surprise that I LOVE bright lips. Its my favorite thing to do! If I HAD to choose one piece of makeup to live with for the rest of my life (thank God I don’t really have to do that) but I would definitely have to keep my red lips.

See I’m telling you… Same bright lip, Different day.

I have done many Red Carpet events in my days and anytime someone is not sure about trying on a bright lip, I apply it on just so they can see it and they end up LOVING it.

Like… April, Trey Songz mom. I do her makeup when she is in town attending events with her son. This is her with a bright lip, I talked her into doing this for a premiere she was attending and she loved it.

You would be surprised on how many steps can go into achieving the perfect red lip. I mean you obviously don’t do these steps everyday but when you are attending a red carpet event or taking pictures all night long these steps make a difference!

Anyway… Here is a special video I put together showing you how to apply the perfect bright lip!

What piece of makeup can you not live with out?

Smokey Eye Tutorial

January 30, 2012

Hey guys, I was watching American Idol the other day and Jennifer Lopez had this amazing smokey eye! Her eyes were super dark and she had this light pale pink lipstick on. I mean… she is gorgeous anyway so I would think that any makeup she had on would look amazing! haha but it inspired me anyway to create another fun, simple tutorial. If you guys have any other suggestions on what I should show or do differently please let me know. :)

The video below shows every step and every product I used so make sure to check it out!

Though I got inspired by Jennifer Lopez, every celebrity loves to do a smokey eye wether its on or off the red carpet. Kim Kardashian especially! Since she is so popular with the smokeyness I decided to name yet another video after her. lol Hope you guys enjoys this!

Red Carpet Tutorial

January 26, 2012

How to get Red Carpet Ready!

So I have now been a makeup artist for officially 10 years! geez I feel old! but I have quite a few Red Carpet experiences under my belt. From big events like the Grammys and Oscars to small store openings! A few things you have to remember about red carpet you got to use primers and long lasting makeup because these events are long and they cant go in looking gorgeous and come out looking, well…. not so pretty! haha

Some brands of primers I like are, smashbox, two faced, and Laura Mercier. I have never had a problem with these and also know that these will definitely help your foundation last all night! Primers to use on your eyes, Urban Decay, and Macs paint pots! I love them!

Anyway, here is one look I put together for you all recreating Kim K’s look at the Golden Globes and I also added some fun nails to go with the look:)

Don’t you want to learn how to get these fancy pantsy nails?! Hope you love it! :)

Kerastase Nectar Thermique

January 24, 2012

One of my favorite styling products I want to share with you guys!

It’s Nectar Thermique by Kerastase. Kerastase is known for their styling products with treatment for each hair type.

I love Nectar Thermique for a couple reasons:

1) A leave in conditioner, everyone needs a leave in. Think of it as lotion for your hair like you put lotion on your body on a daily. Apply after showering on damp hair and style or let air dry

2) Thermal protection, you know you’re hair is protected from heat when you blowdry, flat iron or curl

3) for Dry to very dry hair, extra emollients to give you enough moisture

Beauty Tips

Buttercream Body Soufflé

January 19, 2012

Sounds delicious huh? I cant wait to try this!! My client Renee suggested this to me after I told her my addiction for lotion and having to have smooth, buttery skin.

She sent me a link from Amazon and was shipped from New York within a week!

I’m sure this will be great right after you shower. All the moisture will be completely absorbed applying right after you shower.
